Preparing for Thanksgiving Break

As a Mercyhurst lacrosse player, this week is a dynamic balance between my academics and off-season training. This week, I have had the opportunity to allow my free time to prepare for my upcoming finals. Understanding the balance between school, practice, and training requires a lot of discipline and understanding of time management. The discipline and time management shaped me into a student and athlete at Mercyhurst.  Being a student-athlete has allowed me to develop many essential skills relayed in the classroom and on the lacrosse field. In the classroom, I have absorbed many lessons that extend beyond the lacrosse field. Interacting with my classmates has allowed me to create great relationships with them and be here for my teammates while understanding the importance of communication with them in the locker room and on the lacrosse field.  Preparing for practice correlates to my preparation to finish this semester off strong and carry on the responsibility of bein...

Where I'm at Today

During my last post, I mentioned how things finally were on the up-swing. That really leads to where I am today as a junior undergraduate student. When people ask me if I'm happy with my decision to transfer, I always tell them that I'm not necessarily happy but where I'm supposed to be. I have been honest about my feelings from the very beginning, I am not uber-passionate about Mercyhurst. School spirit does not ooze from me; there are pros and cons to every university. I recognize and give more credit to individual professors and educators for making me the man I am. I mentioned one of these professor (Professor Sheridan) in my previous post . Other people at Mercyhurst that I have found helpful are Dr. Hoffman , Col. Correa , and Dr. Duvenage , just to name a few. Mercyhurst was and is a fit for me and what I need as an undergraduate student. The only way to know if a university is the right fit is to hear the negatives and the positives. This past fall I started coachi...

Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse Gets Prepared for the Spring Season

As the leaves and temperatures continue to fall, a sense of anticipation is developed among the lacrosse team. Fall ball is officially over, leaving us with a taste of the challenges and triumphs that await in the spring. Now, as we transition from the crisp air of fall practices to the indoor intensity of winter training and conditioning, the countdown to the spring season begins! The conclusion of the fall ball brought a quick break, allowing us to catch our breath and reflect on all of the progress we have made and the mistakes we have made. This offseason is crucial, and it is time to develop our identity for the spring season. Training sessions are a beast of their own. Our weekly schedule for training and conditioning consists of team workouts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 5:00-6:00 PM, and then we have conditioning and "fundey's" on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 PM. The frigid air in Erie pierces our lungs, adding an extra layer of challenge to the alrea...

Starting to come together

As I mentioned in the previous post, I have been very negative thus far. I don't do that to be spiteful but to recognize that this was where I was at this point in my life. My sophomore year really started to improve starting in the second semester and I started to feel acclimated to my environment.  I started to think about pursuing a second major as I was already in a good place with my intelligence degree and my electives. I thought about pursuing a degree in political science. This seemed like a logical fit due to my older brother, Logan's, familiarity with the professors. As mentioned in previous posts, a few years earlier he graduated from Mercyhurst with degrees in both Political Science and Intelligence. For one reason or another, things did not come together so I turned my eyes toward a different major...communications. It seemed too obvious, I had already taken advanced-skills classes at a top communications program in the country at Newhouse. I set up a meeting wit...

Reflecting on Fall Ball

As "Fall Ball" finally ended one week ago, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions throughout this previous week. The fall season is always an exciting time for us Mercyhurst lacrosse players. It's a time to refine our skills, develop as a team, and set our sights on the upcoming spring season. This past week has been relaxing and transformative, and I'm eager to share my reflection on the journey we experienced this fall.  The Grind Never Stops Fall Ball is undoubtedly one of the most intense periods of our season. As we transition from summer workouts to practice, the physical demands are a big adjustment. Developing a routine to allow one to succeed in the classroom and on the lacrosse field is very important. Early morning workouts, intense practices, and conditioning drills are what will enable us to develop both physical and mental strength. These are times when we come together as a team and use the bond we have grown to push one another to be the best f...

Start of Sophomore Year

I want to preface this post by reminding you guys that I have no association with Mercyhurst University other than being a student. Mercyhurst has its pros and cons, just as any university. These blogs are just to give the audience some insight into both my and Adam's experiences thus far through our undergraduate careers.     We left off by describing my not-so-positive experience attending my second-ever freshman orientation. My first day of school was met with even more challenges. I woke up actually feeling relatively positive considering I had the excitement of a new experience, while also not having the typical anxiety since I already had a full year of college under my belt.     I had an 8 a.m. so I woke up extra early to go find where my classes were to be held. This was a bad idea. The year earlier I had found all of my classes at Syracuse with relative ease. Now Syracuse is not the biggest campus , but with that said it is a D1 school i...
