I want to preface this post by reminding you guys that I have no association with Mercyhurst University other than being a student. Mercyhurst has its pros and cons, just as any university. These blogs are just to give the audience some insight into both my and Adam's experiences thus far through our undergraduate careers.
We left off by describing my not-so-positive experience attending my second-ever freshman orientation. My first day of school was met with even more challenges. I woke up actually feeling relatively positive considering I had the excitement of a new experience, while also not having the typical anxiety since I already had a full year of college under my belt.
I had an 8 a.m. so I woke up extra early to go find where my classes were to be held. This was a bad idea. The year earlier I had found all of my classes at Syracuse with relative ease. Now Syracuse is not the biggest campus, but with that said it is a D1 school in a city that was new to me. I overestimated my abilities. I spent the next 2 hours wandering around calling my friends to get a sense of direction. It was a very humbling experience to get lost in my hometown college.
I had 3 classes that day. The first class was a coding class that I became lost in really quickly, my second class was an Intelligence class that excited me, and the third class was a marketing class that seemed enjoyable.
The problem with that marketing class was that I was not on the roster, despite it being on my schedule. Apparently, my class schedule had been changed in the week prior without anyone notifying me. In addition to this credits that I was told would transfer over did not. All of a sudden, I was nowhere close to my graduation requirements.
The rest of my first week was spent having heated conversations with multiple advisors. I felt bad being a Karen, but I transferred to Mercyhurst in big part due to what I was promised would transfer over as credits and requirements for graduation. At the conclusion, my advisors admitted their mistakes and were able to generate the best possible solution.
If I sound very negative I apologize. My college experience has grown exponentially since then and we will continue to dive into that next week.
