Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse Finish's Off Fall Ball

As the autumn leaves fell from the trees and raindrops slowly hit the ground, we embarked on our journey to Nazareth University for a scrimmage against a historical program out of Pittsford, New York. For us, it was more than just a game; it marked the end of fall ball, the culmination of months of hard work, and a chance for us to put all of the pieces together from this fall.  The trip to  Nazareth University was a refreshing change of pace from our usual routine this fall. Our bus was filled with anticipation, preparation, and excitement. The journey was not just about covering miles but an opportunity to bond as a team as the wheels turned to Pittsford, New York. Road trips are an excellent time for us as a team to connect through sharing stories, exchanging jokes, and creating memories that will last forever for us all.  As we arrived at Nazareth University, we were greeted with a beautiful campus made out of old brick. The Nazareth Men's Lacrosse team showed us grea...

What It's Like the Day Before a Scrimmage

It is what I call Game Day Eve! As a student-athlete, the day before our scrimmage against Nazareth University is a mixture of relaxation, anticipation, and preparation. Join me as I walk you through what my day consisted of today.  My day kicks off with a morning workout. This is an excellent way for me to get the blood flowing throughout my body and start targeting specific muscles I need to loosen up to be prepared for tomorrow. It is also a great time to sweat and allow myself to feel productive for the day.  After I finish my workout, I head to the Grotto to fuel myself with breakfast. I had an omelet and peanut butter bagel as my post-workout/breakfast meal. Proper nutrition and hydration allow me to fuel my body and feel prepared for tomorrow.  After I have breakfast, I head over to the locker room at 11:30 to get ready for our walkthrough. The day before scrimmages/games, we, as a team, go through our game plan and answer any questions or concerns. The walkthrough...

Why are we here?

Despite in reality being a sophomore, since it was my first year as a Mercyhurst student, I was instructed to go to freshman orientation. My mom dragged me out of bed to go on campus for the first time. As soon as I walked through the doors, a picture was taken of me to be on my student ID. Now picture the worst possible photo and then make it 10x worse, that is my student ID photo. I'm talking hair up, no smile, and lifeless eyes. I thought about including that photo here, but then I decided I did not want that photo's digital footprint to grow. My mom was being the typical mom and was way more excited about the whole event than I was. After sitting in a freezing auditorium for 20 minutes, they split the parents and the students up. After a walk around campus and sitting in another auditorium, I was given my schedule that included various flaws, but that's a story for a future post. I was then directed to a room with Ridge College professors. This college specializes in s...

Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse Participates in Lax For Life

As the wind rips off Lake Erie, causing temperatures to drop and leaves to fly, the Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team begins to take the field to face their first competition while playing for a cause. On Sunday, October 22nd, as a team, we participated in the  "Lax for Life"  fall ball scrimmages at Mercyhurst University on Saxon Stadium. The scrimmages comprised competitive contests between Mercyhurst University, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Capital University.  Lax for Life is a non-profit organization founded by former Mercyhurst lacrosse player  Ryan Scoble . Ryan experienced heart failure in the spring of 2021, just a few months after his father received the same diagnosis. He received a heart transplant, which allowed him to start a new journey in his Life. During these troubling times, however, Scoble remained determined to make his return to the lacrosse field. After a lot of perseverance, allowing him to overcome challenges, he could return to the lacrosse fi...

Roundabout College Journey

As a high school senior, I did what typical 17-year-olds do, I started applying to my ideal schools. At the top of that list was Syracuse University . The prestigious communication school, Newhouse , was the reason why I felt Syracuse was my dream school. Growing up, I always wanted to be a Sports Broadcaster so it made sense to me to go to a school with such impressive alumni: Mike Tirico, Bob Costas, and Sean McDonough just to name a few. Syracuse's campus was also three hours from home, which I felt was the perfect distance from home. It allowed me the independence and responsibility of living on my own, while also being close enough to my parents in the case of an emergency. In addition to this, my cousin, Eli, was a Syracuse undergrad at the time, so I would also be able to spend a lot of time with him. I was accepted into 'Cuse's Broadcast and Digital Journalism program and was set to start out my undergraduate degree.  Syracuse was everything I hoped it would be. I ...

Mercyhurst Lacrosse Experiencing Change This Fall

As the calendar pages turn, leaves change colors, and the air turns crisp in Erie, PA, the fall weather is upon us here at  Mercyhurst University . "Fall Ball" is upon the Mercyhurst Lacrosse team as we prepare for our upcoming season in the spring and reflect on the experiences we developed last season. Last season, we had a very successful season, making it to every collegiate athlete's dream...The National Championship. Unfortunately, after our appearance in the National Championship, our team was saddened by the news that our head and assistant coaches had taken new coaching opportunities.  As the fall came around, we were excited to hear that the school had hired  Trey Keeley  as our new head coach. Coach Keeley has a solid lacrosse background, allowing for the development of our program and individuals to be in good hands. My teammates and I were very excited about hiring Coach Keeley because it opened up many new opportunities for us on and off the field. The ...
