Why are we here?

Despite in reality being a sophomore, since it was my first year as a Mercyhurst student, I was instructed to go to freshman orientation. My mom dragged me out of bed to go on campus for the first time. As soon as I walked through the doors, a picture was taken of me to be on my student ID. Now picture the worst possible photo and then make it 10x worse, that is my student ID photo. I'm talking hair up, no smile, and lifeless eyes. I thought about including that photo here, but then I decided I did not want that photo's digital footprint to grow.

My mom was being the typical mom and was way more excited about the whole event than I was. After sitting in a freezing auditorium for 20 minutes, they split the parents and the students up. After a walk around campus and sitting in another auditorium, I was given my schedule that included various flaws, but that's a story for a future post. I was then directed to a room with Ridge College professors. This college specializes in studies regarding Political Science and Intelligence. This was by far the highlight of my day, as I was able to hear about topics that actually excited me.

We finally hit the midway mark of the day and were invited to have lunch in the dining hall. I had a dining hall-level lunch with my mother. She may have complained more than I did, as she said that the stuff she listened to was about letting go and giving children room to grow. This was a valuable lecture for most of those parents I assume, but my mother already had one son in Maryland and last year as previously mentioned I was at Syracuse. As we continued through lunch my mom turned to me and asked "Why are we here? Do you even want to go here?"

At the time my honest answer was no (don't worry I didn't tell my mom that). I had only applied and enrolled because I did not trust myself to take a gap year and then make a decision on what to do with my life. I convinced my mom to skip the afternoon's activities and we went home. My Mercyhurst experience was not off to a hot start, but it did get better.

Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse Finish's Off Fall Ball

As the autumn leaves fell from the trees and raindrops slowly hit the ground, we embarked on our journey to Nazareth University for a scrimmage against a historical program out of Pittsford, New York. For us, it was more than just a game; it marked the end of fall ball, the culmination of months of hard work, and a chance for us to put all of the pieces together from this fall.  The trip to  Nazareth University was a refreshing change of pace from our usual routine this fall. Our bus was filled with anticipation, preparation, and excitement. The journey was not just about covering miles but an opportunity to bond as a team as the wheels turned to Pittsford, New York. Road trips are an excellent time for us as a team to connect through sharing stories, exchanging jokes, and creating memories that will last forever for us all.  As we arrived at Nazareth University, we were greeted with a beautiful campus made out of old brick. The Nazareth Men's Lacrosse team showed us grea...

Mercyhurst Lacrosse Experiencing Change This Fall

As the calendar pages turn, leaves change colors, and the air turns crisp in Erie, PA, the fall weather is upon us here at  Mercyhurst University . "Fall Ball" is upon the Mercyhurst Lacrosse team as we prepare for our upcoming season in the spring and reflect on the experiences we developed last season. Last season, we had a very successful season, making it to every collegiate athlete's dream...The National Championship. Unfortunately, after our appearance in the National Championship, our team was saddened by the news that our head and assistant coaches had taken new coaching opportunities.  As the fall came around, we were excited to hear that the school had hired  Trey Keeley  as our new head coach. Coach Keeley has a solid lacrosse background, allowing for the development of our program and individuals to be in good hands. My teammates and I were very excited about hiring Coach Keeley because it opened up many new opportunities for us on and off the field. The ...
